HAIB is a group of Hmong-American content creators. The founding members are Anita Vue (top left), Brenda Vang (top right), Jack Vang (bottom left), and me - Kevin Phoojywg Xiong.

'Haib' is a Hmong word and it means “cool.” As in like, “Oh, that’s so cool!” We felt this word would represent us well because we want to change the narrative of what our communities think is cool. Storytelling can be portrayed in many ways, so our style is simply doing what we think is “cool” or “HAIB.”

"Our mission is to create dialogue to share and express our love for our community. We hope to bring forth more representation for marginalized communities. In addition, we want to bring awareness regarding multiple issues in an entertaining and engaging way."

PORTFOLIO

These are some of the biggest projects from our portfolio that has helped us create our voice in our community.

BRIDGING GENERATIONS

We know we're not the only ones who grew up watching the original song as an ad on our favorite childhood cassette movies.

The music video was so iconic that we wanted to make a parody AND a modern version of it for those that grew up with it to re-live their childhood and for the newer generations to enjoy.

We are so blessed to have over 500,000 views! Thank you to everyone that has supported the video since last October (2019)!

UNDERSTANDING BARRIERS

This film was a collaboration with Lisa Vang (Miss Hmong MN 2019 2nd Runner-up). In this short film, we highlight the clash of cultural identities and developing generational gaps within the Hmong community.

This short film is just one small way for us to illustrate the different perspectives, struggles, and or privileges of each generation's experiences.

This short film focuses on the narrative of a young Hmong-American teen who struggles with language barriers.

MODERNIZING TRADITIONS

Life as a Hmong shaman can be exhilarating but also complex and intersected. HAIB joins Billy, a young Hmong-American shaman, and dives into his multi-dimensional lived experiences through conversation.

This video is part of a 7 episode podcast that explores Billy's experiences with becoming a shaman, what rules are facts or myths, the spiritual side effects of abortions, how women are view and treated in the shaman world, misconceptions, and scary stories.
